Coral Springs, FL – CellAntenna Corporation, experts in combating cell phone threats, has introduced its latest product, the CJAM-JDECK Low-Jamming System, for use by customs and immigration departments worldwide to fight illegal activities conducted via cell phones.
The CJAM-JDECK is a low-level jammer that is installed under-the-counter for use in customs and immigration departments. The jammer is designed to prevent illegal cell phone activity in lines at the airport at customs and immigration points where cell phones are prohibited. As lengthy lines, illegal immigrants, substances and contraband have become increasingly problematic for customs and immigration officials, CellAntenna has created a product solution.

The jammer only powers on when cell phone use is detected by a text or call being made or received. The unit is easy and adjustable and is able to notify an agent of prohibted use and the agent is able to immediately jam the cell signal. The unit has three capabilities: detect-only, detect-jam (jams only when call/text in progress), or full-jam, depending on varying scenarios.

Cell Phone Jamming Needs To Be Legalized For Local And State Law Enforcement
CEO of CellAntenna cites FCC data that concludes that jamming is not a menace
(May 8, 2012) New Orleans, LA - CEO of CellAntenna Corporation, Howard Melamed, announced today at the CTIA exhibition in New Orleans that cell phone jamming needs to be legalized for state and local law enforcement to prevent criminals from using cell phones for illegal purposes.
According to public data from the FCC (http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/jammer-enforcement), there were only 20 incidences of illegal cell phone jamming enforced under the provisions of the 1934 Communications Act, which allows legal jamming only by the federal government. None of the FCC citations issued were against any law enforcement agency. CellAntenna contends that with so few occurrences, jamming appears to be a non-issue or the FCC would take a harsher stance on prosecution.
CellAntenna has urged Congress to introduce legislation that would allow limited use of cell phone jamming equipment by local and state law enforcement and more stringent penalties to members of the public caught illegally acquiring the equipment and using it. Jamming equipment is able to prevent the use of cell phones by criminals when police activities are ongoing, such as SWAT team operations, inside jails and prisons, and for local and state bomb disposal units.
“The need for cell phone jamming equipment by law enforcement greatly outweighs any threat of public misuse,” stated Melamed. “Only 20 incidents of jamming were found and prosecuted? With so few actual citations issued by the FCC for public misuse, there is no reason for the cell phone industry to be afraid of any misuse by local and state law enforcement agencies.”

CellAntenna Says FAA is Wrong
Coral Springs, FL – CellAntenna’s CEO contested that cell phones do not interfere with airplane navigational equipment, and cell phone use during takeoffs and landings cannot crash airplanes.
FAA rules dictate that airlines force passengers to turn off cell phones during takeoffs and landings because of interference problems with navigational equipment. This ruling went into effect when tower operators complained that cell phone use on airplanes was generating havoc on systems, as cell phones contacted more than one tower and caused interference. Older models of cell phones, like cell bag phones, emitted larger transmissions. This has been corrected in this century, as cellular carrier software has experienced upgrades and small, low-energy pocket and smart phones have become prevalent. The FAA has not updated its rules to accommodate such cell phone progression.
“It’s ridiculous that Flight Attendants, who are not engineers, and have no knowledge of engineering make-up of planes, tell passengers to turn off their cell phone because it interferes with navigational equipment,” stated Howard Melamed, CEO of CellAntenna. “It frightens passengers and it is unnecessary. If the FAA was right, and cell phones were dangerous, why would they even allow them on airplanes? There are reasons for keeping a cell phone off before takeoff and landing, which include making sure attention is given to safety procedures and for common courtesy. However, since it’s almost impossible to make a call above 3500 feet, let alone at cruising altitude, keeping the cell phone on will ultimately only drain battery as it tries to reach a tower with which it cannot communicate”.
Melamed further states that CellAntenna engineers and manufactures cell phone detection equipment that is used by law enforcement on trains, in correctional facilities, and can also be used on planes, but to date no inquiries have ever been received on behalf of an airline or the FAA. “If this were truly the issue, we would know about it. “

New Zealand Sees Surge in Illegal Cell Phone Jammers
It appears that New Zealand, like the United States, is fighting its share of illegal cell phone jamming devices.
The concern with these illegal devices is their threat to public safety and well-being. The devices were originally used by military officials, but have made their way into the hands of renegade members of the public. Cell Jamming Continues to Trend as Hot Topic
Cell phone jamming has been a hot topic trending on Google this week. At CellAntenna, we reiterate our strong stance on cell jamming being illegal to the general public. However, Dr. Kidder asks valid questions regarding the need for emergency situations and the ability to block cell communication, which is currently illegal. NTIA Releases Cell Jamming Report
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration has a released a report detailing the results of tests conducted at its Boulder, Colo., lab in December on mobile phone signal jamming equipment. The tests were done as some members of Congress and others push to permit jammers to be allowed to be used in prisons.
The testing, which was done mainly in a radio-anechoic chamber, involved a jammer supplied by CellAntenna Corp. that used both the 800 megahertz cellular and 1900 MHz PCS bands. The equipment operated at a power level of up to 100 watts, and emissions were measured in bands from 100 MHz to 6 gigahertz.
The report did not address (1) whether CellAntenna's product was effective at jamming signals, (2) OOB levels for "alternative jammer designs," and (3) "[t]he aggregate radiation level from a jammer installation."
Howard Melamed, CellAntenna's president and chief executive officer, told TRDaily that he was pleased with how his equipment, a high-power device normally used for military purposes, performed.
He said the same equipment, "configured by our engineers with our own specially designed filters," was used for an NTIA-run test last week at a federal prison in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Melamed called the prison demonstration "an overwhelming success."

"If jamming were to be performed across the full width of the targeted bands, improved RF output filtering might be needed to reduce the device's out-of-band (OOB) emission levels in the adjacent bands," the report said. "An alternative approach to reducing OOB emissions in the adjacent bands would be to reduce the device's in-band chirp width while using less-effective RF output filtering."
"The device's unwanted emissions are better contained within the cellular and PCS bands when the chirp range is limited to a 2 MHz band segment vs. a full band," the report added. "The diplexer did improve the OOB roll-off in the spectrum immediately adjacent to the jammed bands, although measurable emissions did occur in those bands even with the diplexer installed. Beyond the OOB region of the adjacent bands, and with the exception of one emission near 3000 MHz, installation of the diplexer reduced unwanted spectrum emissions to levels that were below the 100 dB [decibels] dynamic range of the measurement system across the range of 100 MHz to 6 GHz."

Press Release: Cellular Carriers Need to Surrender Revenue From Illegal Cell Phones Found in Prisons
Las Vegas, NV/ April 1, 2009 – At the CTIA exhibition in Las Vegas, attendee Howard Melamed CEO of CellAntenna Corporation, a company that sells solutions for mobile phone signal problems and produces jamming equipment for prisons, is demanding that cell phone service providers surrender to department of correction authorities money earned from illegal cell phones found in prisons. The money would pay for the extra guards and equipment needed to tackle the growing epidemic of inmates using cell phones in prisons. Currently, illegal cell phones smuggled into prisons are the foremost problem facing correctional officials.
“The cellular providers through the CTIA say they sympathize and support law enforcement in their fight against illegal cell phones in prisons but lobby our government to deny law enforcement access to jamming equipment,” said Howard Melamed, President and CEO of CellAntenna. “As long as they oppose providing law enforcement the authority to jam illegal cell phones, they should voluntarily turn over any revenue made from illegal cell phones to them. No one should profit from criminals.”
Under the CellAntenna proposal a correctional facility that finds a cell phone used by an inmate can order the carrier associated with that cell phone to turn over all income earned from the illegal cell phone. Millions of dollars in revenue that the carriers are making would fund the cost of the searches and other less effective equipment that CTIA wants the prison authorities to use.
“Taxpayers need to know that it is costing our state and local governments millions of dollars for our prison authorities to search for cell phones,” continued Melamed. “CTIA representing the cellular service providers is standing in the way of law enforcement officers by denying them access to 100% effective low cost jamming equipment. The least they can do is pay for additional enforcement and security to assist prisons in tracking elusive cell phones.”
CellAntenna’s CJAM equipment is the only known way of jamming cell phone signals in a prison without affecting the surrounding neighborhood and the public safety radios. The company has been leading a nationwide fight to allow state and local law enforcement officials the authority to use cell phone jamming equipment that is currently not allowed under federal law.
